Smooth skin isn’t just a summer quest, with harsher conditions in colder months, it’s a year-round task. Luckily, we’ve shared our top tips for silky smooth skin – whether you’re in your bikini by the pool or at-home in your fave PJ’s.
We’re now exposed to more and more ‘flawless’ skin, thanks (or not!) to skin-smoothing filters used on social media. A recent study by Grazia found that 71% of people would not post a picture of themselves on social media without editing it first. Here at SmoothSkin we’re about celebrating your own flawless beauty, that’s your skin, your way.
Here’s our top tips to achieving smooth skin.
Our skin regenerates itself approximately every 28 days (find reason or benefit) the process isn’t 100% perfect, and a build-up of dead-skin cells can be left on your skins surface. Body scrubs will help remove these, giving you several benefits:
• Absorb moisturiser better, moisturiser will soak into the skin more thoroughly
• Unclog pores and prevent ingrown hairs
• Dry skin can make the skin rough to the touch and has a dull, cracked texture and appearance. By removing it, skin appears more even and smoother to the touch.
If you pick up your moisturiser straight after your bath or shower, this is a sure-fire way to build a life-long habit. Moisturising will help lock in moisture that can be lost through bathing in hot water or shaving. It supports your skins natural barrier – keeping its microbiome balanced and healthy.
Just as you would with your skincare routine, it’s recommended that moisturiser is applied morning and evening.
80% of the sun’s rays can pass through clouds, so even if it’s overcast – the UV index could still be high which means your skin is prone to damage. While both UVA and UVB contribute to skin damage, UVA rays are now known to cause premature skin aging – resulting in wrinkles, changes in skin texture, and uneven pigmentation. So, when choosing your SPF, be sure to check that it protects against UVA too.
Just as you look after your skin on the outside, as it’s a living organ, it’s important to look after it on the inside too. Keeping hydrated will help to maintain your skin’s elasticity. What we eat can
also have an impact, a well-balanced diet full of antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids help provide the necessary building blocks for healthy skin cell function.
When your heart rate increases during exercise, it boosts circulation, spreading oxygen and nutrients throughout your body — including to your skin cells. Regular workouts also stimulate the production of skin’s natural oils, so your complexion stays smooth and supple. Pick something you enjoy – ours are walking in the park, swimming, and our favourite spin class!
IPL can help with not only the feeling of smooth skin, but also the appearance. As IPL targets and disables the hair follicle beneath the skin directly, you’ll notice this above the surface too with less dark shadows and stubble. In a recent study, 100% of participants agreed that their skin felt and looked smoother and healthier.
